It has been a weekend of very few goals in the
barclays premier league with most fixtures decided by a goal or two. The cream
of the ties took place on sunday where Giroud and Sturridge both scored to
secure wins for Arsenal and Liverpool respectively.
Man City 2-0 Hull City
A week after suffering an unexpected loss to
promoted Cardiff, the hosts were again troubled by one of the Premier League's
newcomers in what was an unconvincing display by Manuel Pellegrini's men.
Hull should have claimed the lead in the seventh
minute when Graham's ball took a fortunate ricochet off Nastasic and sent Aluko
clear but the Nigerian squandered the glorious opportunity.
But on the 65th minute mark, Zabaleta
got behind the defence and whipped an inviting cross for substitute Negredo,
who moved into space and leapt high to plant a firm header past McGregor.
And the points were safe in the final minute when Toure
stepped up to curl in a superb free-kick, despite Elmohamady tracking back to
the goal-line.
Cardiff
City 0-0 Everton
Roberto Martinez was left frustrated on the touch
line after watching his Everton side Everton pick up their third successive
draw in a goalless stalemate against a gritty Cardiff.
There was no lack of commitment from the pair in a
full-blooded contest.
Newcastle 1-0
Fulham
Hatem Ben Arfa’s superb solo goal in the 86th
minute ended Newcastle's wait for a Premier League goal after 411 minutes to
hand Alan Pardew a precious 1-0 victory over Fulham.
The France international produced a piece of
individual magic four minutes from time to create half a yard of space and
rifle a stunning left-foot shot past the helpless David Stockdale to claim a
first league win of the season.
Norwich 1-0
Southampton
Norwich shocked big spenders Southampton with a
narrow 1-0 win. Young England forward Redmond got the only goal in the 68th
minute afer cutting inside and lashing home low from the edge of the box, out
of Boruc's reach.
The goal led Pochettino to ring the changes, with
substitute Jay Rodriguez causing the City backline problems before fellow
replacement Steven Davis lashed over.
There was to be no comeback, though, as Norwich
stuck to their task to secure victory.
Arsenal 1-0
Tottenham
A third goal in as many Premier League outings from
Olivier Giroud saw Arsenal to a 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the north
London derby.
Spurs' 100 per cent start to the season came to a
grinding halt at the home of their fiercest rivals, with Andre Villas-Boas'
expensively-assembled squad drawing a blank at Emirates Stadium.
It was the in-form Giroud who cut them down to size
on Sunday, with the France international expertly turning home a low cross from
Theo Walcott on 23 minutes - with Hugo Lloris beaten for pace at his near post.
Liverpool 1-0
Manchester United
Daniel Sturridge continued his fine start to the
season with the only goal of the game as Liverpool overcame Manchester United
1-0 to make it three wins out of three in the Premier League.
On a special afternoon at Anfield, as Liverpool
remembered the legendary Bill Shankly the day before what would have been his
100th birthday, it took just four minutes for Sturridge to mark the occasion in
style with a clever header.
In a typically fiery affair between two fierce
rivals, United put their hosts under pressure for long periods in the second
half but could find no way past Simon Mignolet as David Moyes slipped to his
first defeat since replacing Sir Alex Ferguson.
